About Me
Hi! My name is Mia and I’m a rising senior at Weston High School. At the start of ninth grade I joined a club called Girl Up. I’ve always been passionate about gender equality and education for girls, but joining this club really intensified my interest. It also enhanced my interest in helping children become educated and reach their goals. Since then, I have started my own club in my high school, called Teens in Action. We have held donation drives for homeless shelters as well as raised money for an organization that sends children with cancer and their families to Martha’s Vineyard for a week-long vacation. Starting this business allowed me to devote my summers to an issue I’m enthusiastic about, while also giving me an opportunity to improve my baking. I chose Horizons for Homeless Children, a program which aims to improve the lives of homeless families, because I feel that part of my job as a privileged young woman with many doors open to me is to use the resources I have in order to help those less fortunate gain access opportunities that enable them to lead the lives they deserve to lead.
